Doctor of Philosophy

Career stage: Senior

The Royal College of Music is pleased to announce the creation of three new doctoral scholarships, for 2026 entry: two home scholarships covering the full value of UK fees, and one overseas scholarship covering the full value of overseas fees. Scholarships will be awarded for up to three years of full registration on the PhD programme, with up to twelve months of additional writing-up time if required, subject to satisfactory completion of the annual progression review exercise. Awardees will need to fund their own living expenses.

All applicants to the doctoral programme for entry in September 2026 will automatically be considered for a scholarship. Awards will be made on the basis of the quality of the submitted research proposal and accompanying materials submitted as part of the application for a place, as judged by members of academic staff representing the College’s research specialisms. Consideration will also be given to addressing areas of underrepresentation in the doctoral cohort.
