This week our COO Roger Wilson joined Dr Kadiatu Kanneh-Mason on BBC Radio 1Xtra with CassKidd to discuss Classically Black, our recent event celebrating black and global majority excellence and creativity in classical music.
The conversation explored the inspiration behind Classically Black and its role in amplifying the voices of black and global majority artists and professionals across the classical music sector. Roger and Kadi spoke candidly about representation, access, and the power of visibility in an art form that has historically lacked diversity.
They also discussed the ongoing work of Black Lives in Music to create structural change within the industry, from education and opportunities for young musicians to fair treatment and recognition for professionals. Classically Black represents one of many initiatives driving our mission to ensure that black talent is seen, supported, and celebrated at every level.
The interview highlighted how collaboration, community, and cultural understanding are essential to building a future where everyone feels they belong in classical music.
