On 11th May, 20 musicians from the ongoing Recruiting Classical project joined principal musicians from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to develop their orchestral playing and hone their audition technique. The session took place at the world-renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Since then, another session has successfully taken place in Liverpool led by musicians of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Recruiting Classical is a new initiative that sees Black Lives in Music working with four of the UKs very best orchestras – Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. As a direct result of the project Global majority musicians are now working regularly with these orchestras. We hope that many from the cohort involved in this session will go on to take their places, working regularly with this consortium of orchestras and ultimately join the wider UK orchestral work force.
