Classically Black: A Festival of Music & Culture

We’re back and bringing the energy! Classically Black 2025 returns to Kings Place on Saturday 18 October 2025 with a full day of performances, discussions, and fresh new talent — all celebrating Black and global majority brilliance in classical music.

Now in its second year, Classically Black is more than a festival. It’s a cultural movement — redefining classical music through creativity, innovation, and powerful new voices. And this year’s edition is extra special as we celebrate 5 years of Black Lives in Music!

What’s on the programme?

The CYP Workshop Sharing Session: Led by the acclaimed Black British composer, Pete Letanka featuring incredible young musicians from the Music In Secondary Schools Trust initiative

Spotlight Panel –  ‘Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves’ with Paulette Bayley (Sub Principal Second Violinist, The Hallé),  Amina Hussain (flute and Resident Music Therapist, Manchester Camerata), Amanda Baldwin (mezzo soprano, Royal Ballet and Opera chorister) and Rianna Henriques (wind instrumentalist).

New Works: From Historical to Hip-Hop –  Featuring Simmy Singh (violinist), The Jollof House Party Opera, and Sabi Ensemble.

The Next Movement: Evolving Sounds Showcase – A fresh wave of boundary-pushing talent, selected through our national call-out for rising classical artists.

But that’s not all…

After the festival, we’re hosting our 5th Anniversary Celebrations with DJ Spoony, featuring live performances from some of the best in UK Garage: Kele Le Roc, Lifford, MC Ranking, MC Viper, Thomas Jules, and Romina Johnson. It’s our way of saying thank you for five years of support, creativity, and community.
