Recruiting Classical: Opening Doors in the Orchestral World

In partnership with eight of the UK’s leading orchestras, Black Lives in Music is proud to be driving meaningful change in the classical sector. Our unique audition initiative has been created to increase representation and diversity, reflecting a shared commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable orchestral workforce, one that is both relevant to, and reflective of, the diverse communities we serve.

We are delighted to share the outcomes of our most recent auditions, which drew over 100 applications from talented musicians across the UK and beyond.

14 musicians were successful and have now been added to the extra-work lists of our partner orchestras, gaining the opportunity to perform with some of the UK’s leading ensembles.

19 musicians have been invited to join our Professional Development Scheme, where they will receive tailored support and training to prepare for future opportunities.

Partner Orchestras:

We are thrilled by the exceptional standard of applicants and the enthusiasm from our partner orchestras. Together, we are opening doors for a new generation of musicians and reshaping the future of classical music.
