Rest Salon is an online space created for Black Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent music creatives and professionals. It’s a place to connect with peers, reflect on shared experiences, and simply be—no codeswitching, no masking, just real talk.
Hosted by producer and changemaker Eve Horne, and co-created by Black Lives in Music with Attitude is Everything, Rest Salon was born out of the Unseen and Unheard report and podcast. That work highlighted the many barriers Black disabled and neurodivergent people face in music. This is one way we’re responding—with care, community, and connection.
January’s launch session centred on the legacy of Nina Simone. The conversations were open, honest, and deeply moving. One attendee shared: “It didn’t feel voyeuristic—just real stories in a safe space.” Another said: “Eve made the room feel warm, even on Zoom.”
Eve reflected, “It was an honour to host. A beautiful space was created where we could be open and honest… A brilliant first session.”
The next Rest Salon is on Wednesday 26th March and places are filling up fast.
