Black Lives in Music in partnership with the Young Vic Creators Program

A reminder about our exciting opportunity for those interested in a career as a Musical Director, as the deadline to show interest fast approaches. Read on for details!

We have teamed up with the Young Vic through their Creators Program for our first event, ‘Introduction to Making for Musical Directors’. Focused on addressing the underrepresentation of Black and Global Majority Musical Directors (MDs) in the British theatre industry, our project aims to provide opportunities for professional musicians interested in learning or refining their skills in musical direction through a series of free events.

First on the agenda is a Q&A panel event at the Young Vic in London on Wednesday 29th November 2023 at 6pm (GMT). With an impressive lineup of professional MDs in the industry, the panel aims to share experiences and offer guidance on pursuing a career as a Musical Director in musical theatre.

Please note, this event may be recorded or livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.

For the full line up, and to express your interest in attending this panel event, click here. You have until 10am (GMT) on Wednesday 15th November to do so.

Part two of this project will feature a series of workshops held at the Young Vic, scheduled between January 2024 and March 2024. Over the course of the three months participants will delve into musical theatre history, highlighting the contributions of Black and Global Majority artists within the space, and learn more about the crucial working relationships between an MD and key collaborators in the creative process.

Applications to express interest in these workshops will open on Thursday 30th November 2023.

Both parts are free to attend.
